PROGRAM AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES FOR REWORKING INDIA
The strategy for the meeting in November is to build on existing efforts and develop adaptive replicable models through local change-makers and youth coalitions. The meeting will create a platform for collaborative action among leading actors, focusing on areas of “high opportunity” where there is already critical mass of actors and ideas:
• Accelerating a renewable energy vision for India
• Mainstreaming sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods
• Promoting new business models that tackle urban challenges such as waste; and water and sanitation.
• Creating large-scale skills development and finance platforms to support green businesses.
Both plenary discussions and workshop sessions will provide the opportunity for creative, cross-sector discussions and to broker concrete deals between organizations in support of a new agenda for youth green employment.
In addition, the most promising outcomes and initiatives will be further promoted in the process towards the YES 2010 Summit in Sweden where opportunities to connect to international investors will be actively pursued. The Summit 2010 will build on the work already done, and create further momentum for collaborative initiatives globally.
The Outcomes Expected:
- Clear strategies with timelines, outcomes, assigned tasks and evaluation measures.
- Plans for further partnership development and funding.
- Process for creating awareness among young people of new initiatives that are addressing social and environmental issues and can create employment opportunities.
- Create concrete opportunities for young people to be involved by developing collaborative projects, facilitating investment in scaling up projects, and gaining support from business and/or governments.
- Provide “Action Workshops” as part of the Rework Meeting focusing on the specific themes and initiatives, and as needed after the Meeting, to explore how to scale up the selected initiatives to provide more job opportunities for young people.
